Obituary, Beaches Leader, June 5, 2012

Robert L. Scharnweber, 86, current resident of HarborChase of Jacksonville and former resident of Ashford Court in Jacksonville Beach, passed away Wednesday, May 23 at McGraw Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

Bob was born December 4, 1925 in Fayette County, Iowa, son of Louis and Alma (Minkel) Scharnweber. He married Jean Price in October 1944. They raised three children; Ronald, Judy, and Lou Ann. Bob and Jean divorced later in life. He married Betty Brennan in April 1977.

A graduate of Waterloo, Iowa West High School in 1943, Bob served as a radioman in the Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. He joined the Waterloo Fire Department in June 1950. He was promoted to lieutenant in January 1966 and then to captain in February 1976. He retired after 31 years of service in June 1981. After moving to Florida and a brief retirement, Bob returned to fire service as a fire inspector for the state of Florida from 1987 through 1996.

Through the years Bob enjoyed bowling, golfing, and supporting the Iowa football team. As an avid fan he attended several bowl games to cheer for the Hawkeyes. During his Florida retirement years, Bob enjoyed more golf (he once made a hole in one at the Pasadena Golf Club in Pinellas Park), shell collecting on the beaches, and bicycle riding. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elmer and Melvin, first wife Jean and second wife Betty.

He is survived by a son Ron (Terry) Scharnweber of Boca Raton, FL; daughters Judy (Sam) Quick of Jacksonville, FL, and Lou Ann Swann of Jacksonville Beach, FL; five grandchildren; Brandon (Vicky) Swann of Neptune Beach, FL, David Scharnweber of New York, NY, Aaron (Peggy) Quick of Weldon Springs, MO, Lisa (Mike) Archibald of New York, NY, and Angel (Bill) Finney of Peoria, IL; and, six great grandchildren; Mason Swann, Molly, Kevin and Allison Quick, Evelyn Archibald, and Scarlett Finney.

A private family memorial service during inurnment took place in St. Petersburg, FL.
