Steven G. “Beef” Thome, 56, died Friday, September 28 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born February 27, 1956 in Waterloo, son of Cletus F. and Irene Dietsch Thome. He married Christine L. Shirk on May 6, 1978 in Gilbertville.

Steve graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1974. He farmed in the Jesup area for many years. He also worked at Challenger Feed. Steve was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 8227 and was a member of P.G.I. Fireworks.

He is survived by his wife; a son, John (Amanda) Thome of Waterloo; two daughters, Erin Thome and Julie (Dayton) Ericson all of Urbandale; a brother, Jeff Thome of Gilbertville and a sister, Shelly (Dale) Gronoski of Raymond; four grand-puppies, Harley, Pebbles, Cooper Ericson and Jake.

He was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas G. Thome on October 22, 2009 and his parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Order of Foresters and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council 8227. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the family.
