WATERLOO — Ruth Elaine Nolan Brown, 74, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Waterloo, daughter of Adeline Moore Hunter and Cleve Nolan. She married Luvell Crisp on April 27, 1957, and they later divorced. She then married Hugh W. Brown, who died in 1975.

Mrs. Brown was employed by GMAC Mortgage.

Survived by her companion, Wallace Treadway; a daughter, Belenna (Will) Crisp Western; five grandchildren, Quanika (Reggie) Crisp, Cathe Leena Monique (Doug) Mayes, and Shamonie, Dominique and Rushuan Western, all of Waterloo; a special granddaughter, Audrey Fox; three great-grandchildren, NaJada, Naziya and Jordon Mayes, all of Waterloo; a sister, Beatrice Reynolds of Waterloo; two brothers, Cleve (Betty) Nolan of Milwaukee and Leroy Powells of Waterloo; an uncle, Sammie Lee (Beulah) Moore of Minneapolis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Clarence Moore Sr. and Johannie C. Moore, who raised her; maternal grandmother, Pearlie Mae Moore; paternal grandparents, Moses and Alice Nolan; three sisters, Gladys Robinson Thomas, Jackie Roberts and Catheleen Nolan Culp; and four brothers, Harry “Po Devil” Robinson, Robert Diaz, Larry Nolan and Classon Nolan.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Church of God in Christ, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Service.

Memorials may be directed to 1917 Mulberry St., Waterloo, 50703, where they will receive friends.
