Alva Rokes was born March 9, 1926 in Marshall County Iowa the son of John and Edna (Taylor) Rokes. He died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 73 years.

He married Dorothy A. Zirat June 4, 1952 in Tama, Iowa. Mr. Rokes was a Contractor, building 23 shopping centers, hospitals, schools, etc. He served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Cedar Falls, his son, Tracy and his wife, Delonna, of Cedar Falls and their three daughters, Alexis, Natalie, and Miranda; and two brothers, Harold of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Roger of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Alva was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Phillip in infancy, Ralph, and John; and three sisters, Maxine Schuler Brown, Florance Cooper, and Grace Jordebrek.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the UNI Football program.

Note: SSDI shows his name as Elva. Some newspaper articles say Elva, others Alva. His marriage announcement reads Elva, and the silver anniversary says Alva. His gravestone reads Alva Rokes.
