Janice Anita Sutherland was born on July 22, 1935 in Waterloo, the daughter of Burton and Stella (Brown) Rice. She died at the age of 77, on September 6, 2012, at her home in Cedar Falls.

She grew up in Waterloo and graduated from West High. On January 4, 1953,

Janice was united in marriage to David E. Sutherland in Princeton, Missouri. In past years, she worked as an AVON Sales Representative and a branch manager for Brandeis. Janice was an avid gardener and enjoyed camping, shopping, traveling and every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She rode go-karts with her grandchildren, played laser tag and never missed a chance to have a party or celebration. She loved to socialize with everyone and had an incredible laugh. When she walked in the room, the party started! She loved sports, especially football. The Dallas Cowboys were her favorite team. Janice was very family oriented, and next to God, her family meant everything to her. To her family, she was an angel on earth.
