Darlene F. Simon was born August 2, 1931, in Parkersburg, Iowa, the daughter of John Henry and Jeanne (DuBois) Simon. She died at the Hospice Home, Monday, June 10, 2002, at the age of 70 years.

She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1948. Darlene married Joseph LaVere Smith in Dubuque, Iowa on August 28, 1948. They were later divorced. She managed the White Bear Café in Parkersburg and before her retirement she worked at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo. Before being transferred to the Cedar Valley Hopice Home in Waterloo, Darlene was lovingly cared for, in her home, by Socia and Sulejman Kajtezovic.

Darlene is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Bunn of Parkersburg, Iowa, Glenna Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Joni Smith of Waterloo, Iowa; four grandchildren, Amy Bunn, Alicia Cory, Brittanie Miller and Jacob Smith; one great grandson, Logan Cory; five brothers, Raymond, Daniel, Vernon and Russell Simon all of Parkersburg, Iowa and Donald Simon of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters, Pauline Engelking of Jefferson City, MO., Doris Evert of Waterloo, Iowa and Marcelle Windham of Rockford, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband in 1989, one brother, John Edward Simon and two sisters, Helen Terwilliger and Marquerite Fisher.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
