Sally Oeltjen, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, April 27, 2007, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls. She was born October 27, 1920 at Goslar, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Hedwig (Gundlach) Schulz.

At the age of three, she, with her mother and brother, came to America from Germany. Sally married Lawrence H. Oeltjen on September 14, 1939 at Fairbury, Nebraska. They moved to Iowa from Nebraska in 1941 and farmed in the Hudson area until retirement in 1971. Lawrence preceded her in death January 29, 2002.

Sally is survived by one daughter, Margaret Ann Miller, of Cedar Falls and one son Marlin (Joan) Oeltjen, of Marion, Iowa; five grandsons: Scott (Tina) Oeltjen of Anamosa, Iowa, Brad (Sara) Miller of Cedar Falls, Chad Oeltjen of Coralville, Iowa, Matthew Miller serving his country in Iraq, and Ryan Miller of Omaha, Nebraska; and four great grandchildren, Brittany and Mark Oeltjen and Noah and Elijah Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Ulrich and Erhard Schulz and Martin Bohlmeyer, and one sister, Leila Watts.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson. Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 30, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.

Celebrating 60th Wedding Anniversary

Lawrence and Gisela (Sally) Oeltjen were married 60 years on September 14, 1999. They were married in Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, Nebraska.

Their family consists of two children, Marlin Oeltjen and his wife Joan of Marion, Iowa and Margaret and her hausband Lyle Guldager of Cedar Falls, Iowa. They also have five grandchildren: Scott Oeltjen and his wife, Tina of Hiawatha, Iowa, Brad Miller and his wife, Sara of Rochester, Minnesota, Chad Oeltjen and his wife Kari of North Liberty, Iowa, Matthew Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Ryan Miller of Fort Lewis, Washington. They have one great-grandchild, Brittany Oeltjen.

Their children will host a family dinner at Nicker's on Saturday, September 26, 1999.
