WATERLOO - Eugene J. Hogan, 79, of 1434 Rainbow Drive, died at home Wednesday, March 1, 2000, of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Riceville, son of Joseph and Violetta Murphy Hogan.

He married LaDonna Costello on June 19, 1940, in Waterloo.

Mr. Hogan was employed at Rath Packing Co. as a sales manager for 42 years, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

Survived by his wife; three sons: Dennis E. of Waterloo, Michael J. of Columbus, Ohio, and Patrick T. of Iowa City; two daughters, Sally Mascaro of Farmington, Conn., and LaDonna Stockton of Midlothian, Va.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Ben of Waterloo; and three sisters: Geraldine Lemon of Seattle, Wash., Shirley Nemmers of Waterloo and Margine Weber of Des Moines.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
