DENVER — Helen “Jean” Scheer, 84, of Denver, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

Jean was born on August 6, 1928, the daughter of Edwin William and Florence O. Stanford Kehe.

Jean attended the Waterloo Schools, graduating from East High in 1946. Jean worked at Hinson Manufacturing for a short time then at John Deere Waterloo Works. While working there, she met her future husband Don. They made their home in Cedar Falls for 30 years until Don was transferred to Moline. Once Don retired, they built their retirement home in the “Big Woods” area west of Denver. Jean loved the peace and quiet of the woods. She also loved the family gatherings, either for special occasions or just fun. She and Don enjoyed their many trips around the U.S.A. Always with golf clubs in the trunk even on the many fishing trips to Lake Kabetogama in Northern Minnesota, a favorite for many years.

Jean is survived by her husband, Don; five children; Cindy (Al) Mennenga, Jim (Barb), Bruce (Cindy Ann), Kathleen (Bill) Hesse, Richard Scheer & Troy Greenwood. Five grandchildren; Sandra (Matt) Wickman, Adam Scheer, Audrey Hesse, Steven Hesse and Jeff Heckroth. Four great-grandchildren; Ricky, James Daniel, Eddie Ray and Emily Marie.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bob Kehe.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6th at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa with visitation for one hour before the service.
