Linda Mitchell, 71, of Henderson, Nevada, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, July 5, in Las Vegas after a long illness.

She was born Linda Ruth Deckert on February 27, 1941, near Waterloo, the daughter of Walter and Ann Deckert. She married Terrence Mitchell.

After graduating high school, the couple relocated to California where he was vice president of sales for Pharmavite, while she was a homemaker. She also was finance manager for Golf Sales West of Oxnard, Calif.

Survived by her husband; a son, Timothy Mitchell of Oxnard, Calif.; three daughters: Patty Aubery of Santa Barbara, Calif., Nancy Mitchell of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Kelly Zimmerman of Westlake Village, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Henderson, Nev., with a private burial. Celebration and open house from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Sun City Anthem Independence Center, Morris Nelson Room, Henderson, Nev.

Memorials may be directed to 2314 Valley Cottage Avenue, Henderson, NV 89052.

Mrs. Mitchell’s early bout with breast cancer inspired daughters Patty and Nancy to coauthor the book, Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul, and other bestselling titles including Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul.
