Cindy, 61, was born to Clara B. (Hebel) Nelson and Cecil Nelson in Waterloo. Cindy went peacefully of brain cancer with her mother by her side.

Cindy graduated in 1969 from Columbus High School. She cleaned houses and churches, a job she liked doing.

She was very creative in decorating and crafts. She was very caring for animals and plants. She walked her dog everyday in the park where children would play, helping if a child fell and skinned a knee. She was there to help, even if just to give a smile. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Cindy donated her body for research to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, still hoping she would help someone else.

Cindy is survived by her mother, Clara; a brother, Larry Nelson of Waterloo; a sister, Karen Freshwater of Las Vegas; two nephews, Jimmy Kelly of Waterloo and Nathan Robinson of Las Vegas; two nieces, April Perry of Dunkerton and Sara Robinson of Las Vegas; three aunts, Dorthy, Dixie and Blanch; and an uncle, Christy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil; and a sister, Dixie Kelly in 2011.

Memorials may be sent to Cedar Falls Hospice.
