WATERLOO, Iowa - Charles S. Welcher, 81, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, June 30.

He was born March 23, 1931, in Waterloo, son of Kenneth and Berneeda Monday Marvitz Marquis. He married Maxine Morelock on June 29, 1984.

Mr. Welcher served in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Korean Conflict and had worked as a master carpenter.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Dan J. (Jana) of Waterloo, Richard J. (Heather) of Washburn; three stepsons, Mike (Julie) Morelock of Lillian, Ala., and Robert (Robin) and Steven Morelock, both of Waterloo; a daughter, Jacqueline P. (Steve) Woodman of Traer; a stepdaughter, Lisa (Steve) Conrad of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sonja (Terry) Duckworth of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Kannegieter.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, where visitation begins at noon, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa National Honor Guard.
