WATERLOO, Iowa --- Mary R. Hafke, 93, of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 1, at Friendship Village Retirement Center of natural causes.

She was born April 5, 1919, in Holytown, Scotland, daughter of James and Janet Myles. She married Paul W. Hafke on April 14, 1945, at the 12th-century parish church in Corby, England. He died May 27, 2007.

Mrs. Hafke graduated from English High School and Gates Business College. She was employed as a financial officer for the Office of Economic Opportunity and worked for Peoples Bank. She also was a member of Knights Hospitaller in England (Knights of St. John).

Survived by two sons, Paul A. of Pueblo, Colo., and James A. (Michele) of Arvada, Colo.; and two granddaughters, Melanie and Roslynn Hafke.

Preceded in death by a sister, Agnes; and four brothers, Alex, Norman, James and Andrew Myles.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Village Chapel, preceded by burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village or a charity of donor’s choice.
