EVANSDALE — Mildred E. Standridge, 88, of Evansdale, died Tuesday, July 3, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer.

She was born March 14, 1924, in Jesup, Buchanan County, daughter of James C. and Ida M. Robison Twaites. She married Paul Standridge on Jan. 28, 1945, in Richmond, Calif. He died Oct. 7, 1995.

Mrs. Standridge attended Jesup Schools and had worked for 28 years at Schoitz Memorial Hospital, and later Covenant Medical Center as a nurses’ aide and a unit secretary. During World War II, she worked in the shipyards in California as a welder.

She enjoyed embroidery and gardening. Mildred also liked to go on road trips and was fond of fishing.

Survived by: three daughters, Diane (Marvin) Schellhorn of Waterloo, Mary Lou Nirk of Evansdale and Wanda Standridge of Jesup; a son, Paul Eugene of Evansdale; a stepdaughter, Teressa (Tim) Weeter of Waterloo; a stepson, Terry (Deb Acklin) Hanson of Waterloo; 10 grandsons; 19 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a son-in-law, John Pullin of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: two sons, Gerald and Earl; a daughter, Elniece Pullin; a granddaughter, Kimberly Schellhorn; a brother, Marvin Twaites; and a sister, Gladys Simon-Eggars.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and an hour to the services Friday at the funeral home.
