WATERLOO — Caven C. “Bud” McRae, 78, of Phoenix, formerly of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 following a long illness.

He was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Elva, Manitoba, Canada, son of Caven and Margaret McRae. He married Willa Delle “Willie” Dobbyn on Sept. 24, 1957.

Mr. McRae was a hockey player and a member of the Manitoba Provincial Hockey Hall of Fame. He skated for five professional clubs over seven years before coming to Waterloo and playing for the Black Hawks. He also was a member of the Manitoba Provincial Baseball Hall of Fame. He and his wife owned and operated the Hat Trick Lounge before moving to Phoenix, retiring in 2000.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Wesley (friend Kim) of Phoenix and Scott (Carol) of Maricopa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers-in-law, Bill (Linda) Dobbyn and Jack (Norma) Dobbyn; two sisters-in-law, Gwen Shaw and Margaret (Scott) McRae; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Dave and Murray “Scotty”; and a sister, Doreen.

Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix.
