WATERLOO — Lyell LeReau Corwin, 92, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center from complications of surgery.

He was born May 8, 1920, in Clarksville, son of Floyd and Madge Norton Corwin. He married Fannie Schneiderman on Aug. 17, 1939, in Waverly. Mr. Corwin served in the 106th Infantry division of the U.S. Army during World War II. During his service in Europe he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and earned two Bronze Stars. He worked at Rath Meat Packing Co. as an elevator operator for 40 years, retiring in 1982, and was a member of the Rath Union.

Survived by his wife; a son, Charles “Chuck” (Brenda) of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd Corwin Jr. of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by four sons: LeRoy, Richard, Lyell “Bubby” and Raymond Dean; a daughter, Carol Gaffney; two brothers, Dale and William “Bill;” and a sister, Faye Cypress.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Graveside military rights will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the family.
