WATERLOO - Maria Sandoval, 91, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Friendship Village of lung cancer.

She was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Waterloo, daughter of Trinidad Gonzales and Maria Ulloa. She married John Sandoval on Aug. 23, 1941, at Sacred Heart Church, Fort Madison.

Mrs. Sandoval graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1938 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for 50 years and also of the Latin American Club of Waterloo.

Survived by her husband; a son, Gregory of Phoenix; two daughters, Irene (Larry) Duis of Las Vegas and Margaret (Terry) Woodward of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rick Gonzales of Trenton, Fla.; and five sisters: Felipa Sinnwell of Des Moines, Beatriz Sullivan of Texas, Juanita Rowell of La Porte City and Marguerite Ortiz and Virginia Hurtado, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: two sons, Michael and Steven; and four grandchildren, Chad Sandoval, Aaron Duis and twins Trevor and Tyler Sandoval.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village or Cedar Valley Hospice.
