WATERLOO — Eileen Claudia Akin, 74, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center of congestive heart failure. She was born Oct. 30, 1937, in Waterloo, daughter of Tenes and Lydia Christensen.

On Oct. 13, 1956, she married Philip Akin. Mrs. Akin attended Orange Township High School and the University of Northern Iowa. She worked as a bookkeeper in payroll and offi ce support for many years. She worked for Montgomery Ward, Canteen Vending, Weight Watchers, Duds’n Suds and Claassen Engineering. She was involved with 4H, Bridge Marathon, was a Cub Scout den mother and West High Booster.

Survived by her husband; a son, Philip G. (Ruth); a daughter, Lisa A. (Tim) Wilson; five grandchildren, Ethan, Sarah and Wesley Akin, and Brooke and Ashley Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Corwin; and a grandson, Jason Akin.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Memorials may be directed to the church.

Eileen had a passion for playing cards with friends, and was very good at it. She was in the same card club for 40 years.
