A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Kimball.

Janyce Kay Walbaum was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Cedar Falls, to Herman and Darlyne (Christensen) Walbaum. Janyce graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1961.

On Oct. 14, 1961, she was united in marriage to Donald "Don" Willhite in Vermillion, S.D. They resided in Norfolk, Va., until Don was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1963. They moved back to Cedar Falls. Janyce enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to her children, Don Jr. and Lisa, until 1972 when she started her 30-year employment as a factory worker for John Deere, Waterloo.

Through the years, Janyce enjoyed going to car shows with her husband. They began flea marketing in 1987, and did so until 1998. She retired in December 2002 from John Deere. At that time, she and Don enjoyed traveling and playing poker. In August 2008, Don died in a motorcycle accident. In June 2009, Janyce moved to Kimball. She quickly found a card-playing group of people. She enjoyed attending every event her grandchildren were involved in. Janyce is best known for her love of her family and for playing cards.

On May 13, 2012, Janyce lost her battle with cancer at the age of 69 years. Gratefully sharing in her life are her son, Donald Willhite Jr. and wife Patti of Des Moines; a daughter, Lisa Pazour and husband Rick of Pukwana, S.D.; two grandchildren, Anna Rose and Drew Pazour of Pukwana; a stepgrandson, Christopher Deist of Des Moines; and a brother, Donald Walbaum and wife Sharon of Buckeye, Ariz.

Preceding her in death were her husband Don and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Sioux Falls Council, P.O. Box 5039, Sioux Falls, SD 57117.
