ELK RUN HEIGHTS — Henrietta V. “Hank” Shipp, 95, of Elk Run Heights, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

She was born Jan. 28, 1917, in rural Grundy County, daughter of Henry and Tina Schulte Johnson. She married Menno F. Van Hauen on Dec. 3, 1935, and they later divorced. She married C.W. Shipp on March 16, 1962, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died Jan. 2, 1975.

Mrs. Shipp and her husband C.W. purchased the C&H Cafe in Evansdale in 1970, and she continued to operate it for 37 years, retiring in 2008. She was a member of the AmVets Auxiliary.

Survived by two sons, Lawrence (Sandy) Van Hauen of Webster City and Ronald (Laurie) Van Hauen of Milaca, Minn.; two daughters, Sylvia (Bob) Walker and Denise Van Hauen, both of Elk Run Heights; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; and a special friend, Janet Taylor of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Jean Van Hauen; two brothers and four sisters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Over the years, she was known as Grandma Hank and was a strong supporter of the Evansdale Police and Fire departments, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the MDA.
