CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Robert A. Beck, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.

He was born July 1, 1925, the son of Svend J. and Frederika (Petersen) Beck. He married Jean E. Rath on June 21, 1950, in Cedar Falls. He graduated from Orange Township High School, Waterloo.

Bob served two years in the U.S. Navy with pilot training at the University of Georgia during World War II. After the service, he attended Iowa State University and Chicago Technical College. Bob was co-owner of Beck-Erickson Construction Co., which was formed by his father.

He was a master mason, and his company was involved with several local projects, including the Cedar Falls band shell, Cedar Falls Historical Society Victorian Home addition, the Lutheran Home, First Baptist Church & Gym, Valley View Baptist Church, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, an addition to First United Methodist Church, as well as additions to North Cedar, Orchard Hill and Cedar Heights schools and many residential homes around the city.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Beck of Cedar Falls; one son, Douglas (Linda) Beck of Des Moines; two daughters, Sandra (Dale) Davis of Knoxville, Tenn., and Kathy (Jon) Zimbeck of Parker, Colorado; four grandchildren, Mallory and Hunter Beck and Megan and Ben Zimbeck; and two stepgrandchildren, Eren Newman and Brittany Fergason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Joan Sindlinger and Betty McGill.

Graveside committal services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Fairview Cemetery, followed with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, June 12, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.
