WATERLOO, IOWA - Craig Eugene Atkins, 59, of Waterloo, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Allen Hospital, after a long illness with cancer.

He was born January 19, 1953, in Waterloo, son of George and Loraine Buls Atkins. He married Linda L. Tagtow on September 14, 1973, in Waterloo.

Mr. Atkins graduated from Waterloo East High School and continued his education at Iowa State University. He was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for more than 39 years, most recently working as machine set up for Department 304, retiring June 12, 2012.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ryan (Joe Tapp) of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Heidi (John) Atkins McEchron of Iowa City; his mother of Evansdale; five brothers, Mark (Kristin) of Evansdale, Bill (Neil Soppe) of Waterloo, Jeff of Dallas, Robert (Nancy) of Red Oak, Texas, and Bennie (Amy) of Raymond; and his pug dog, Lizzie.

Craig was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, where visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Craig enjoyed playing golf, video games, camping, was an avid football fan and especially enjoyed his time with his family and loved ones.
