MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Charlotte Owen, 89, of Marble Rock, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.

She was born January 13, 1923, in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, daughter of Charles Edward and Louise Ann (Seidler) Stowell. She married Richard J. Stewart in 1945 in Waterloo and he preceded her in death. She remarried in 1960 to Hadwin Owen in Dubuque. He also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Owen graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School, Waterloo. She and Hadwin owned and operated The Rock Tavern and Lounge along with the C&H Superette.

She is survived by three sons, Gary (Janet) Prior of Charles City, Mike (Cindy) Stewart of Cedar Falls and John (Betty) Stewart of Marble Rock; a daughter, Joann Westemeir of Wildwood, Florida; a stepson, James Owen of Waterloo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Nate) Heise of Shell Rock; and her companion, Bill Wentworth of Marble Rock.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Stewart; two stepsons, Don and Michael Owen; and a grandson, David Stewart.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Roseville, Iowa, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Marble Rock, with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Those of us who were privileged to know Charlotte admired her for her Irish humor, her love for fishing, music and family. She was, as we all know, unique in God's creation.
