GILBERTVILLE — Alma G. Schares, 91, of Gilbertville, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls.

She was born July 5, 1920, in Gilbertville, daughter of Frank and Pauline Federspiel Delagardelle. She married Francis “Fritz” Clare Schares on Feb. 3, 1944. He died Feb. 22, 1998.

Mrs. Schares worked in the school lunch program at Immaculate Conception School and was a seasonal worker at Pioneer Seed Corn.

Survived by: three sons, Dennis (Peggy) of Dubuque, Wayne (Denise) of La Porte City and Allen (Katy) of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Donna (Roy) Burton of Cedar Falls, Doris McGee of Chicago and Suzanne (Bob) Howard of Marietta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Leo, Tom (Shirley), Paul and Clem (Kay) Delagardelle, all of Gilbertville, Irvin (Donna) and Norman (Linda) Delagardelle, both of Jesup; six sisters, Dorothy (Warren) Wadell, Deloris (Ted) Even and Mary (Dick) Schmitz, all of Waterloo, Wilma (Tom) Mullen of La Porte City, and Betty (Joe) Youngblut and Joan (LeRoy) Schmit, both of Jesup; and a sister-in-law, Helen Delagardelle of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her stepmother, Mary (Nie) Delagardelle; three brothers, Willard, John (Joan) and Joe Delagardelle; an infant sister, Esther Delagardelle; and a sister-in-law, Irma Delagardelle.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 3 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or the Bosco System.
