BOY, 5, KILLED AFTER
RUNNING IN PATH OF CAR

A five-year-old Waterloo boy became the city's eleventh traffic fatality for 1972 Sunday afternoon.

George Victor Frank, of 5100 W. 4th St., was killed in the 5000 block of West 4th Street when he ran from the ditch on the west side of the street into the path of a car being driven by James Lawrence Block, 32, of Waverly. Block, a Waverly police officer, was off duty at the time.

The boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Frank.

Block was traveling south on West 4th Street at the time of the accident

The Frank boy was dead on arrival at Schoitz Memorial Hospital. Dr. Paul O'Keefe, Black Hawk County Medical Examiner, said death was due to massive chest injuries.

According to police reports, the boy evidently was playing in the ditch near his home when he suddenly ran out of high weeds onto the street in front of the Block car.

Block told police he didn't see the youngster because of the high weeds in the ditch.

No charges have been filed in the accident.

GEORGE V. FRANK

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel for George V. Frank, 5, son of John L. and Darlene Hill Frank of 5100 W. 4th Street, who was killed when struck by a car in the 5200 block of West Fourth Street at 3:24 p.m. Sunday. There will be no visitation and the family requests no flowers.

The boy was born in Riverton, Wyoming on August 16, 1966, and had resided in Waterloo for the past three years.

He is survived by his parents; one sister, Loretta Jane; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Hill, of Sapula, Oklahoma, and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Frank of Lander, Wyoming.
