Leah Highland was born December 30, 1932, in Lebanon, IN, the daughter of Ernest and Zora (Martin) Hiland. She died Friday, January 16, 2004, at her home in Cedar Falls of lung cancer.

She graduated from Lebanon, IN High School and went on to receive her B.S. (1955), M.A.L.A. (1960) and Ph.D (1973) all from Indiana University. Prior to receiving her advanced degrees, she taught high school in Flosmoor, IN, military base Germany and Merrillville, IN. She then was Assistant Professor, School of Library Science, University of Iowa (1969-72), then Assistant Professor, Department of Library Science, University of Northern Iowa from 1972 until her retirement in 1994. During her time at UNI, she served as Coordinator for the Division of School Library Media Studies from 1991-1994.

Leah is survived by her sister, Carol Hiland of Lebanon, IN and brother, George M. (Kitty) Hiland of Rockville, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lois Wright and one brother in infancy.
