WATERLOO - Robert "Bob" Hugh Charlton, 85, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 21, at Allen Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1926, in Salem, Ill., son of Hugh and Grace Ames Charlton. On July 1, 1949, he married Marlyn Jacobson.

Mr. Charlton received his education at Waterloo East High School, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a carpenter by trade and over the years worked for a number of contractors and for the Cedar Falls Community Schools.

Survived by his wife; three sons, David (Kim) of Cedar Falls, Brian (Pam) of Charles City and Mark (Wendy) of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Cathy Smith of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dean (Betty) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Charlton; a son-in-law, Bruce Smith; three sisters; and a brother.

Services: will be private. Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to charity of donor’s choice.
