George F. Byers – July 25, 1864 – December 4, 1947

GEORGE F. BYERS

George F. Byers, 83, of 1223 LaPorte Road, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday after a two-week illness at University Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
Death was incident to advanced age.

Survivors include a son-in-law, E. R. Jenness, with whom Mr. Byers resided, and a nephew, Harry O. Hilton, 311 Fremont Street.

Mr. Byers married at Waverly, Iowa to Laura Williams, who preceded him in death.

A member of the Methodist Church, he was born July 25, 1864, in Spring Creek Township, the son of William and Lidea Byers, and spent most of his adult life in South Dakota.

Services will be at Kearns Garden Chapel at 3 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Charles Jacobs of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be at LaPorte City, Iowa

George F. Byers was first married to Eda Alice Quimby, the daughter of Josiah Quimby and Edith (Knouse) Quimby. Eda was born in 1865 and died in 1925 in Nora Springs, Floyd Co., Iowa. George and Eda were living in Rock Grove in the 1900 Census and in Waterloo in the 1910 and 1920 Census

Their daughter Nellie Pearl (Byers) Jenness was born July 2, 1889 in Nora Springs.

George married Laura (Long) Williams in May of 1926.
