AHLHELM, Mae A. 1925-2012

EVANSDALE Mae A. Ahlhelm, 87, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, March 7, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Delaware County, daughter of Albert H. and Bessie Frank Young. She married Alman Wayne Peterson, and they later divorced. She married Ralph W. Ahlhelm June 11, 1952, in Omaha, Neb.

She was a demonstrator for Carnation and Pepsi-Cola, and worked at Petersen & Tietz Florists. She was co-owner of R&M Auto Sales.

Survived by five sons, Ronald (Dixie) Peterson of Cedar Falls, Richard (Beth) Ahlhelm, Dennis (Karen) Ahlhelm and Tim (Marilyn) Ahlhelm, all of Evansdale, and Michael (Sharon) Ahlhelm of Lake Ozark, Mo.; two daughters, Jane (John) Katalinich and Penny St. John, all of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Osby, Scott Schmidt, Karmin Fernau, Norman Ahlhelm, Rodney Wesley, Rae Lee Simmons, Laurie Ahlhelm, Greg Ahlhelm, Rebecca Surat, Amy Gomoll, Benjamin Ahlhelm and Dan Reichenbacker; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Terri) Kroenecke and Louis (Betty) Kroenecke, all of Texas; and a sister, Maxine Offerman of Manchester.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Lewis and Robert Young; and three sisters, Ruth Kroenecke, Viola Kane and Beverly Ibach.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Community Meals program at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
