Joseph Schacht was born January 6, 1904, in Hoboken, NJ, the son of E.A. and Elise (Runtermann) Schacht. He died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at the Western Home Communities-Martin Center in Cedar Falls.

On September 3, 1927, he was united in marriage to Olive Avery in Palmyra, NY. She died July 5, 1993. He was employed with Jarka Corp, which later became International Terminal Operators at the Port of Newark as Manager of Operations for 44 years, retiring in 1966. Following retirement, Joseph and Olive moved to Charlotte, NC and later to Davidson, NC to live closer to their daughter.

Joseph is survived by his son, Carroll J. "Cal" (Joy) Schacht of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and son-in-law, James W. Bradford of Davidson, NC.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two daughters, Alice Bradford and Elise Kirtley; brother, Henry Schacht, sister, Margaret Scherer; two grandchildren, Robin Reynolds and Kirsten Schacht and great granddaughter, Lindsey Reynolds.
