CEDAR FALLS — Robert L. “Bob” Curtis, 82, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, Feb. 24, at Western Home Communities-Martin Center.

He was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Cedar Falls, son of Lloyd N. and Lila Clemens Curtis. He married Helen Busch June 6, 1959, in Cedar Falls.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1948, and from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1953, with a bachelor’s degree in social science. Mr. Curtis served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 35 years, retiring as Master Sergeant. He was a police officer with the Cedar Falls Police Department for 34 years, retiring in 1985. He then was an instructor at Hawkeye Community College from 1985-2000. He served as president of the Cedar Falls Exchange Club in 1982.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Jeannette (Steve) Husome of Cedar Falls, Barbara (John) Makinster of Poway, Calif., Cheryl Curtis of Cedar Falls and Stephannie Phalen of West Des Moines; and five grandchildren, Allison (Clint) Gibson of Tiffin, Austin Husome, currently serving in the U.S. Air Force in Italy, Hayley Makinster of Poway, Calif., and Kayla and Lauren Phalen, both of West Des Moines.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service. Full military honors will be provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and Iowa Army National Guard.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or Cedar Valley Hospice.
