Betty J. Ruby, 78, of Bickford Cottages died Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the center from complications of Alzheimer's. She was born February 21, 1925 in Warsaw, Illinois the daughter of Alvin and Helen Crouch Thieman.

She graduated from Quincy High School. She married Charles Ruby Jun 30, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois. He died August 17, 1987. She worked in the kitchen at Payson-Seymour High School. After she moved to Waterloo she worked for Hy-Vee and other local grocery stores giving sample demonstrations of products. She was a member of the Payson United Church of Christ.

Betty is survived by two daughters: Barbara Hill her husband Jim of Waterloo, Iowa and Rebecca Merritt of Waterloo; a granddaughter Jessica Merritt of Waterloo; and a grandson Sean Flaherty of Iowa City, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by a sister Ruth Thieman and a son-in-law Wesley Merritt.
