John Herman Warnke, 87, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at the Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa of natural causes.

John was born on September 23, 1917, the son of Henry and Rose (Nauholz) Warnke in Sumner, Iowa. He was baptized on October 21, 1917 in Leroy Township, Iowa by Pastor A.S. Sauberlick and confirmed on March 29, 1932 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tripoli by Pastor E.A. Hanff. He attended Bremer County Public school.

On February 9, 1939, he was united in marriage to Margaret Bergman at St. John's Lutheran Church - Western Douglas. He farmed north of Waverly until 1967, when he went to work for the City of Waterloo Parks and Recreation until his retirement. On September 23, 1989, he was united in marriage to Eileen Luckie at St. John's Lutheran Church - Western Douglas.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church - Western Douglas; Superintendent of Sunday School at St. John's; Church Council and Deacon; Western Douglas Creamery Board and Bremer County Saddle Club. John enjoyed wood working and fishing.

Survivors are his wife, Eileen Warnke of Waverly; children, Carol (Tony) Spence of Des Moines, Iowa, Ron (Nancy) Warnke of Raymond, Iowa and Sandra (Tom) Bacich of Waterloo, Iowa; step-children, Larry (Joy) Busse of Waverly, Iowa, Lavern (Audrey) Busse of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Karla (John) Davis of Des Moines, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 18 step great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Hagenow of Readlyn, Iowa and Ruth Rosol of Waverly, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret on July 1, 1987; two brothers, Clarence and Henry Warnke; and by three sisters, Mabel Seelhammer, Clara Warnke and Elsa Krueger.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church - Western Douglas, rural Plainfield with Pastor Kim Thacker officiating. Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
