Daniel H. Payne, 70 of rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, died on Monday, September 11, 2006 at his home.

Daniel was born on April 6, 1936, in Traer, Iowa, the son of Sam and Marie Adaskevich Payne. He attended country schools in the Dinsdale and Geneseo areas. He attended high school in Janesville.

He was united in marriage to Donna Schurman on October 23, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He previously worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing, Titus Manufacturing, Rath Packing, Calhoun, John Deere, he was co-owner of Payne-Schurman Excavating. Daniel and Donna owned and operated the Pizza Shack in Cedar Falls, Iowa for five years and they both worked at the Riviera Ballroom in Janesville for a number of years. Daniel was owner of the New Hartford Garage for 25 years. Prior to retiring he worked for Farmers Co-op in New Hartford. He enjoyed family activities, talking with friends, crop farming, and raising livestock. He was an honorary member of the Cedar Falls Amvets Post 49.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna, one son, Dayn Payne and his wife, Cheryl of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two daughters, Denise LeBahn and her husband Tim of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Darla Payne of New Hartford, Iowa; four grandchildren, Cody and Trista LeBahn; and Lesley and Trent Payne; one brother, Russell Payne and his wife, Nancy of Allison, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Philip, Robert, and Jack Payne and a sister, Ina Mae Moffitt.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 10:00 am at the New Hartford United Methodist Church, New Hartford, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the New Hartford United Methodist Church. His body will be cremated following the visitation on Thursday. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
