WATERLOO - Josephine E. Hackett, of the Western Home Communities-Martin Center in Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 09, 2007, at the home.

She was born September 9, 1911, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of James and Alice (Joder) Murtaugh. On February 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Russell Hackett in Cedar Rapids. He died August 14, 1986. She was employed as a switchboard operator for 10 years with the WCF & N Railroad.

She is survived by her son, James Hackett of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Shane (Katy) Hackett and Ryan (Audrey), both of Waterloo; five great grandchildren, Katelyn, Samuel, John, Matthew, and Grace, all of Waterloo; three nieces, Melissa (Mike) Backen of Evansdale, Sally (Ed) Hoppenworth of Waterloo, and Ellen Raetzch of Sequin, TX; and three nephews, Kim (Carol) Peterson of Cedar Falls, Steven Peterson of Taos, NM, and Jim Hayes of St. Petersburg, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Marge Hayes, Marion Peterson, and Dorothy White.

There will be services. Her body was deeded to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy. Memorial contributions may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls is in charge of arrangements. 266-3525
