Merville Purdy

LAPORTE CITY --- Merville (Bob) Purdy, 76, LaPorte City, died Sunday morning, April 6, 1986, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Sacred Heart Church, LaPorte city, with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Gilbertville, Iowa.

He was born Dec. 6, 1909, in Spring Creek Township, Iowa, to William and Rose Harmon Purdy. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed and retired in 1969.

He married Margaret Foss Schmitz, May 22, 1948, at Laporte City. She survives him. Also surviving are five sons, Glenn of Waterloo, Nicholas of Gilbertville, Robert of Washburn, William of Algoma, Wisc., and Merville Jr. of Forestville, Wisc.; two daughters, Linda Schneider of Waterloo and Eileen Buck of LaPorte City; two sisters, Velma West of Gilbertville and Florence Rice of Waterloo; and 23 grandchildren.

Graveside military rites will be by LaPorte City V.F.W. Normandy Post No.3983 and American Legion San Diego Post no. 207 Monday Monday at 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday at 3 and 7:30 p.m. at Huisman-Dykeman Chapel LaPorte City.

Public may call from 4 p.m. till 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
