LaPorte City, IAWILLIAM PURDY FUNERAL SERVICES HELD MONDAY
Death came to William Purdy, 84, life long resident of Spring Creek township, at 9:40 a.m. Friday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. He had been ill with uremic poisoning that followed surgery earlier in the week.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 o'clock in First Methodist church wit Rev. Richard L. Jamieson of the Wesleyan Methodist church conducting the service
Mrs. Howard Glasener and Miss Dixie Glasener, accompanied by Mrs. Clifford Burr, sang "Shall We Gather At the River" and "Going down the Valley."
Casket bearers were John Bader, Clifford Williams, John McNeal, Herman Fett, John Dooley and Ivan Buck.
Burial was made in the family lot in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Relatives attended the funeral from Des Moines, Charles City, Waterloo, Evansdale, Cedar Rapids, Washburn, Vinton, Jesup, Independence and LaPorte City.
William Purdy was born to pioneer settlers of spring Creek township, Gardner and Laura Jacobs Purdy, Jan. 9, 1973. He later farmed in the vicinity.
On Sept. 12, 1896 he married Rose Harmon of La Porte City who survives. Also surviving are one son, Merville, LaPorte City; three daughters, Mrs. Wm. Sommerfelt, Independence; Mrs. Roscoe Rice, Des Moines and Mrs. Louis West, LaPorte City; 35 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and three brothers, Henry, LaPorte City, Charles of Waterloo and Ed of Vinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and six brothers and sisters.
