WATERLOO - Shirley Hemmer Malaise, 66, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Covenant Medical Center following a long illness.

She was born May 18,1945, in Waterloo, daughter of Melvin and Jeanette Mangrich Hemmer. She married Dean Malaise on Aug. 31, 1963, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mrs. Malaise graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. She was a member of Washburn Moose and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 Auxiliary.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Allen (Paula) and Michael, both of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Brandon and Hannah Malaise; three sisters, Patty (Larry) Miller and Loni (Gary) Wordehoff, both of La Porte City, and Shellie (Dave) Mentel of Waterloo; and two brothers, Dale (Jeanne) Hemmer and Rob Schares, both of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by her parents; and stepfather, Robert Schares.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
