WATERLOO - Thomas Joseph Hoffer, 52, of Waterloo, died at home Friday, Jan. 6.

He was born June 3, 1959, in Waterloo, son of Robert Joseph and Shirley Rae Hilmer.

Mr. Hoffer worked in the home health care field in Minnesota and Waterloo, until he became disabled.

Survived by his mother, Shirley Hoffer Steen of Waterloo; eight brothers, Jim and John Hoffer, both of Waterloo, Larry (Steph) Hoffer of Brandon, Brian (Kris), Dan (Jean), Kip and Tim (Gayla) Steen, all of Waterloo, and Craig (Donna) Steen of Albany, Ga.; seven sisters, Jeani (Craig) Riechmann of Independence, Janice (Jack) Hoffman and Deb (Dave) Steege, both of Evansdale, Betty Binard, Barb (Mark) Rust and Judy (Andrew) Davis, all of Waterloo, and Sherry (Kelly) VanDyke of Jesup; an aunt, Ruth Hoffer of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sandy Wersinger and Don Lemons, both of Waterloo, and Jim Beach of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Kenneth Steen; a niece, Danielle Suzanne Knight; his grandparents; and uncles and aunts.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a Legion of Mary rosary at 5 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
