WATERLOO - Patrick Mark McAleer, 69, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 29, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born July 8, 1942, in Omaha, Neb., son of Mark Patrick and Lillian Polzin McAleer. He married Lynda McCabe on April 20, 1963, in Waterloo.

Mr. McAleer received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and his doctorate from the University of Iowa. He worked in the area of educational administration in continuing education at Southeast Community College, Southwest Board of Regents Office and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He later was involved in the insurance industry, retiring from GMAC in 2004.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Christopher of Pittsburgh and Brian (Stephanie) of Savage, Minn.; a daughter, Kerry (Julia) McAleer-Forte of Berwin, Ill.; five grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen (Jack) Winburn of Inverness, Fla.; and a brother, Mark (Faye) of Evansville, Ind.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where visitation begins at noon. Private entombment will be in Mount Olivet Columbarium.

Memorials may be directed to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, St. Stephen the Witness Student Center or Cedar Valley Hospice, in lieu of flowers.
