CEDAR FALLS - Elmer L. Schmadeke, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 15, at NewAldaya Lifescapes from complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Readlyn, son of Henry A. and Erna M. Westendorf Schmadeke. He married Ida Kemmerer.

Mr. Schmadeke attended school in Westgate. He farmed, worked at Waterloo Wood Bearing and retired from Rath Packing Co. In retirement, he owned and operated a lawn care service until 2006.

Survived by his wife; a sister, Carol Jean Thornton of Gilbert, Ariz.; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs and cat, Joey, Casey and Sophie.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Don and Rudy; two sisters, Helen Behrens and Violet Eischweiler; and a daughter in infancy.

Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. There will be no services or visitation. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Memorial fund has been established.
