GILBERTVILLE - Sister M. Irene "Eileen" Federspiel, SSND, 87, of Mankato, Minn., formerly of Gilbertville, died Friday, Dec. 16, at Good Counsel in Mankato.

She was born in 1924, near Gilbertville, daughter of Louis and Magdalen Funfsinn Federspiel.

She attended Immaculate Conception (St. Mary) School, and entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1942. She was a home service sister until 1959, and an elementary teacher in several Catholic Schools until 1985, including Immaculate Conception, St. Joseph, Raymond from 1974-76. She was the founder of Ceramic Haven on Good Counsel Hill in 1986.

Survived by three sisters, Bernice Babinet of Fairbank, Jo-Ann Wierck and Jeanette Klinoff (Roger), both of Texas; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother, Loren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Good Counsel Chapel. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Good Counsel, with a 7 p.m. Vespers. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
