DEATH TOUCHED EDWARD WILSON

WAS PIONEER OF BLACK HAWK COUNTY

Died Saturday Morning at His Home in Mt. Vernon, Ohio

Edward Wilson, a pioneer of Black Hawk County, Iowa, died Saturday morning at Mr. Vernon, Ohio, where he had made his home for the past eight years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age, the decedent being about 80 years of age, and also to a cancerous infection.

The remains will arrive in Waterloo this evening at 5 o'clock over the Great Western and will be taken to the undertaking parlors of O'Keafe & Towne in the Lafayette building. Funeral services will be conducted from the parlors tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock and interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson was born in Knox County, Ohio, on February 11, 1832 and came west in 1854**, locating on a farm in Black Hawk Township, Black Hawk County.

Miss Mary Duke, as estimable woman well known in Black Hawk County, was his first wife. she died twelve years ago. The second Mrs. Wilson, who survives, was a resident of Mt. Vernon, and the marriage was contracted after Mr. Wilson returned to his native state to spend his declining years.

Eight children survive the decedent. They are: Mrs. Laura Garrabrant and Mrs. George Rohrer of Waterloo; Mrs. Alpha McKenzie of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Edward, Jr., of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Horton and Alfred of Spokane, Washington, Burt of Waterloo, and Charles of Grundy Center. One sister, Mrs. L. S. Freeman, survives and is a resident of Waterloo. There are also six brothers surviving -- Al of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; Samuel of Moundsville, Missouri; Frank of Minneapolis; Martin of Yankton, South Dakota, and David and Judson of South Dakota.

Edward Wilson, born February 11, 1832, in Pennsylvania.

Edward died September 3, 1910, at Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.

He was a farmer in Blackhawk Twp. 1854 - 1900

**He was the son of Thomas & Lydia Wilson who came to Black Hawk County after the Civil War, on or about September of 1865.

Edward's father settled on a farm in Black Hawk Twp., where he died from the effects of a stroke, on March 8, 1870. His mother's maiden name was Lopp. Lydia died in Waterloo in 1896 and her obituary appeared in the Waterloo Daily Courier, March 21, 1896.

The obituary (above) for Edward Wilson indicated his place of birth was Ohio. His true place of birth was Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
