MOUNT AUBURN - Donald A. "Don" Rippel, 85, of La Porte City, formerly of Mount Auburn, died Sunday, Dec. 11, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab.

He was born Aug. 5, 1926, on the family farm near Mount Auburn, son of August and Bena Rippel. He married Geraldine "Jeri" Wiles Henry on July 9, 1961, in Mount Auburn.

He graduated from Mount Auburn High School in 1945 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. The couple farmed on the family farm in Mount Auburn.

Survived by his wife of La Porte City; two sons, Arthur (Rose) Henry of Sun City, Ariz., and Rick Henry of Mount Auburn; two daughters, Denise Williams of Marshalltown and Judy Henry of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Roy (Florence) of Vinton; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers; and four sisters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton, with burial in Mount Auburn Cemetery with military rites performed by Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post 177 of Mount Auburn and Iowa Military Funeral Honors of Cedar Rapids. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Mount Auburn American Legion.
