WATERLOO — Daryl A. Lott, 55, of Houston, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, in Houston.

She was born June 13, 1956, in Houston, daughter of Franklin D. and Doris J. Singleton Anderson. She married the Rev. Andrew A. Lott III, and they later divorced.

Ms. Lott graduated in 1974 from S.P. Waltrip High School, Houston, and began the nursing program at Prairie View A&M University, also in Houston. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, in 1980. She was the first African-American woman to complete the program. While in Waterloo, she worked at Covenant Medical Center and Sartori Memorial Hospital. She was a registered nurse for 30 years, working in medical and surgical nursing home health care, home infusion therapy, workers compensation nurse case management, and school nursing. She was employed at Belle Air High School, Houston, at the time of her death as a school nurse. In August she began the master of science in nursing program at Prairie View.

Survived by four sons, Andrew A. IV, Dr. Nathan D. (Chandra), Daniel A. and James D.; three daughters, Natalie R. Lott, Gloria L. (Edward) Scott and Valarie M. Lott; two grandchildren; her parents; a brother, Caleb B. Anderson; and a sister, Deborah J. Edwards.

Preceded in death by a sister, Delores J. Anderson.

Services were at noon Nov. 30 at Community of Faith Church, Houston.

Memorials may be directed to the children, Dr. Nathan D. Lott, in care of Carl Barnes Funeral Home, 746 W. 22nd St., Houston 77008.

Daryl also was a gifted musician, playing the piano and organ and singing. She played for many churches. While in Waterloo, she was a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and served as a church musician. Daryl was a phenomenal woman and mother. Her ministry was caring for people. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
