WATERLOO - Robert E. Peters, 93, of Waterloo, died Friday, Nov. 25, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born May 12, 1918, in Waterloo, son of Howard and Elfie Hinds Peters. He married Olive McDaniel, and they later divorced.

Mr. Peters graduated from West High School in 1936. He served as a printer's apprentice with J.C. Hartman Co. until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy five days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served as a medic during World War II until his discharge on Nov. 20, 1945. Following the war, he worked as a printer for The Courier, retiring after 40 years of service.

Survived by many cousins, including Harriet Ralston of Waterloo, Steve (Sue) Ralston of Waterloo, John Ralston of Allen, Texas, Dr. Patricia Ralston of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Nancy (Tom) Graham of Waterloo and Jerry (Julie) Stevens of West Des Moines.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Peters, in 2008.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Garden of Memories Cemetery, with military honors provided by U.S. Navy Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Bob loved people, and people loved Bob. He enjoyed making others laugh and was a delight to be around. Bob enjoyed going for drives and also going out to eat. He especially loved to travel to Florida and Hawaii.
