WATERLOO - Bernice Piel, 89, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 31, at Denver Sunset Home, Denver.

She was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Warren Township in Bremer County, daughter of Edward and Ida Schade Thurm. She married Bob Piel on June 15, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo. He died in 2003.

Mrs. Piel worked at Rath Packing Co., retiring after 40 years of service.

Survived by a sister, Irene Walther of Denver.

Preceded in death by a brother, Edmund (Mabel) Thurm; and a brother-in-law, Alvin Walther.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Denver Sunset Home.
