Spencer Douglas Hodges, 25, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Cedar Falls, died on Thursday, June 20, 2002, at his home.

He was born on November 30, 1976, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Douglas and Norma (Jurgens) Hodges. He attended the Cedar Falls School System and graduated from the Cedar Falls High School in 1994. He then attended one year at UNI in Cedar Falls.

Spencer had started his chef career by working as a cook at the Red River Room, Holiday Inn, Bonanza restaurant, and was currently working at the Ground Round in Waterloo. Spencer had always had a passion for cooking, since he was a little boy. He knew that some day he would be a chef and indeed he did.

He loved art, especially drawing, and very much enjoyed the outdoors. His greatest passion, though, was his family. He loved to go camping with them and just being there at family gatherings. Spencer had a free spirit, and a good spirit. He loved people and enjoyed touching lives.

Spencer is survived by his parents, Douglas & Norma Hodges of Cedar Falls; his sister and her family, Kerensa & Dustin Burkhardt, Tessa Joy and Izabella Marie of Cedar Falls; his brother, Ben Hodges of Cedar Falls; his paternal grandmother, Joy Quigley of Tripoli, Iowa; and his special friends, Mike Howe and Shane Babcock of Cedar Falls, and his family of friends at Ground Round.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Clayborne Quigley; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Margaret Jurgens.

Celebration of Life Services, including personal tributes from family & friends, will be 6:30 PM, Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM on Tuesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the Spencer D. Hodges
