Mable “Jimmie” D. Ecklund, 87, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Thalman Square of Western Home Communities on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from complications of dementia.

Mable Deane Steege, nicknamed “Jimmie” was born August 8, 1924 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Mabel Doyle Steege. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1942 and later from Pitze's Cosmetology School in 1959.

Jimmie married Arthur F. Ecklund on February 28, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri.

She had a beauty shop in her home and later worked in the Sears Optical Department until retiring in 1980. Jimmie was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church and active in Ruth Circle. She and her family enjoyed traveling the West camping and fishing at Osakis Lake, Minnesota. Jimmie’s favorite pleasure was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Arthur Ecklund of Cedar Falls, son Kenneth and his wife Terry of Dysart, daughter Karen Schmidt and her husband Tom of Waterloo, three grandchildren: Chelsea and Brittany Ecklund of Dysart and Robyn Dodd and her husband Donald of Nevada, Iowa; two great-grandchildren: Travis and Alex Dodd of Nevada; brothers-in-law George Roth of Waterloo and Carl Ecklund of Sauk Centre, Minnesota; sister-in-law Rose Ecklund of Sauk Centre; and many nieces and nephews.

Jimmie is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Jean Roth and Jerry Pekrul.
