WATERLOO - Robert "Bob" L. Myers, 81, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Waterloo, died July 3, at Veteran's Hospital of cancer.
He was born June 26, 1930, in Horton, son of Chauncey and Bertha Schauer Myers. He married Shirley Witt Hillman in 1963.
He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1948. Mr. Myers served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-54. He earned several medals and received many letters of commendation from various generals. He started working with Mather Stock Car Co. in Waterloo, and transferred to Sioux Falls in 1955, where he worked for North American Car Corp. In his retirement years, he did maintenance at Walmart from 1997-2010 in Sioux Falls.
The couple raised a great family. Shirley had four sons and they added two girls to top off the family tree. Bob spent his leisure time with family. He coached the boys' basketball and softball teams, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with the family. He loved attending activities and concerts of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survived by his wife; three sons, Randy (Dawn) Hillman of Sioux Falls, Roger (Mona) Hillman of Lake Conroe, Texas, and Ken (Serena) Hillman of Tea, S.D.; two daughters, Barbara and Doreen (Ron) Dickens, all of Sioux Falls; a daughter-in-law, Helen Hillman of Sioux Falls; a brother, Gerald of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Betty Brunscheon of Charles City, LaVonne Meehan of Santee, Calif., and Helen McCulley of Hudson; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by three brothers, Ivan, Alvin and Donald; two sisters, Grace Brown and Dorothy Dunnwald; and a son, Bruce Hillman.
Services were held at Hope Lutheran Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Sioux Falls.
